About

Sometimes life gets the best of us. Sometimes we feel like God is far, far away or that He has forgotten about us. Perhaps you feel so overwhelmed with your responsibilities that you can do nothing but sink into the pit of despair and loneliness and can’t see a way out. At times in those pits we need somebody to reach down and offer us a hand to be pulled to safety; other times we just need somebody to come down into the pit and sit with us so we’re not alone. I want to be that for you. I want you to know that life afresh can be achieved, that healing and restoration are available, and that it is possible to climb out of the pit with the help of Jesus. Let’s start that journey together.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

My goal as your counselor is to provide you with the support you need and help you achieve your goals for healing and restoration. I hope that after working with me you will see an improvement in your quality of life, and an increase in your joy and freedom. I hope to help you create your own methods of dealing more effectively with the life you live and that you can become more successful at handling the challenges you will face in the future.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I approach counseling from a story perspective. We all have stories, both the ones we’re telling now, and the ones we told long ago which inform and often dictate the ones we’re telling now. There is also the future story, which is yet to be written. My desire is to help you better understand your stories and through that understanding, write a better story for your future, with God’s help.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

If we truly believe that Jesus is the center of our lives and that without Him, we can do nothing, then Jesus must be a part of the counseling process—otherwise we’re doomed to failure. I believe that the integration of our spirituality and our relationship with Christ combined with the knowledge of counseling theory and practice is the best and most complete treatment plan possible. We are ourselves no matter where we go, and to be the best version of ourselves, we need to be the most complete version of ourselves—and that means involving Jesus in everything.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I earned my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University in Kirkland, WA and my Bachelor’s degree with a dual major in Bible & Theology and Social Science from Puget Sound Christian College. I have been counseling professionally since 2013.

My Call to Christian Counseling

One of the biggest influences on my career choice was my youth pastor growing up. He spoke into my life and encouraged me to pursue a career as a counselor. He also was the primary reason for my attendance at Puget Sound Christian College, as it was his alma mater. I have had repeated validation of that career and education choice over the years, and I am confident that I am in the role that God had planned for me all along.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

I love spending time with my family. My wife and two children keep me busy with all of our activities, from youth group volunteering to Boy Scouts with my son, and worship team with my wife on the weekends at church. I also enjoy woodworking and building and fixing things.

Individual Counseling

In one-on-one counseling sessions, we will work together to better understand the core issues you are struggling with, not just the surface problems you are experiencing. By walking together through the difficulties you are facing, we will discover God’s healing power. I will use my experience as a counselor to help you better understand your individual story and how your story impacts your life.

Counseling for Teens

Being a teenager in today’s age is not only challenging, it can also be overwhelming. With all the pressures that you are facing to fit in, to accomplish big things, and just to figure out your place in this world, sometimes it is all too easy to lose sight of the One who created you, Jesus, and His plan for your life. Together we will strive to reintroduce Jesus to the various challenges you are facing, and to achieve a better understanding of your true self and your real purpose.

Trauma

We all have a story to tell, and yours is just as unique to you as your fingerprint. Your story is full of pain, hurt, and disappointments, and your past is playing itself out repeatedly in your life despite your best efforts to hide it and pretend it’s not there. Together, we will work to not only tell your story fully, but to better understand your past and exactly how it is impacting your present. By gaining this understanding, we will seek the Lord’s help to develop your story for the future to be the best it can be.

Men’s Issues

Sometimes being a man isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. With all the pressures to be what our society says we should be, often we feel like we don’t measure up. We can never be strong enough, smart enough, make enough money, have enough, or do enough to be considered equal with the standards set by our culture. Together, we will explore what the Bible says about what it means to be a man, and we will rebuild the image of masculinity to one that better reflects our perfect example of manhood, Jesus Christ.

Grief & Loss

Loss is one of the aspects of life that no matter how hard we fight against it, will always happen in one form or another. Sometimes this looks like the loss of a loved one, being betrayed, or even a sudden change in your life. Despite all of us having these situations at one time or another, seldom do we get the opportunity to process through them fully and understand their impacts on our lives. I want to provide a place for you to explore your grief and loss in a safe space. My goal is to help you understand that sorrow is a part of our emotional experience, and only by understanding our sorrow can we experience joy in the midst of pain.
